There are many different kinds of engineer but they are all needed to make products from bacteria and viruses.

I am a bioprocess engineer, this means i just design the process, pick the bacteria, work out how to make it make the product i want.

The process needs to be housed in a building and you would need a civil/structural engineer to do that.

The equipment would be designed and built by a mechanical engineer,
All the equipment would be controlled by things made by and electrical engineer.
