I do 40 hours a week but sometimes I have to go to the factory in the middle of the night to run experiments, in those weeks it is a bit longer but it’s fun because I get to go in the factory when not many people are there. I like the thought that while most people are sleeping we are making thousands of cans of beans for their breakfast 🙂

I work 40-45 hours a week, but sometimes a little more if i need to do some out of hours public engagement or science communication. Generally any time I do over 40 hours are because there is something fun I want to do like some science based stand-up comedy. Very occasionally i might have to talk to someone who lives in a different time-zone about work and that will extend my day too!

I usually work 40 hours but I will work longer if I am having a busy week. During the launch of a new car, I might need to work weekends or do shifts. The production line is running 24hrs a day so we sometimes need to work through the night to make sure everything is going smoothly.

My contract is for 37 hours. I used to have the factory mentality of clocking in and out on the dot, but as a manager I have a responsibility to lead by example and can do anywhere between 4 – 6 hours extra a week. Its not so bad, I still have an early finish on a Friday afternoon at 13:30 and the weekends are mine to spend with the family. You have to find the balance that keeps everyone happy.

My contracted hours are 8 to 4 so 37 hours a week but on an average week I’ll usually be in for about 40 hours which is split between my desk, being on the factory floor and my day release to college.
