I did a cool scheme called the “Engineering Education Scheme” when I was 16. Before that I had never really consdered it…

It’s not like there is a subject at school called “Engineering” my advice would be to try and get as much experience as possible, maybe for your work expeirence in year 10/11 and make sure you keep up with maths.

Also, be creative and just try and build stuff… even playing with Lego is Engineering!

Like Mark I didn’t think to look into engineering until I was about 16 as well. I started reading about engineering degrees before I started my a-levels and it was exactly what I loved about maths and science rolled into one.

Trying out DIY projects at home or starter kits is a good way to start if you want a bit more instruction on how to put things together and then what you can change so they suit you and your needs better. Keeping up with maths and science at school for the theory background is really helpful and if your school has a workshop lesson they can teach you a wide range of hands on skills.

I didnt think about engineering till i started looking for a course that would let me do a bit of all the sciences.

I think you should give it a go! there are loads of courses that you can take part in such as Inspire, Headstart and Smallpiece that let you experience engineering at a university, but my overall advice is to do something you enjoy!
